Dr. Gordon Balch
Working with municipalities to design studies comparing different water and waste water treatment solutions
For over 25 years Dr. Gordon Balch had focused his efforts on the protection of water through the identification and analysis of excessive nutrients, legacy compounds and emerging chemicals of concern and the assessment of their impacts to receiving environments. He has worked in both the private and public sectors and has for the past decade been applying his broad base of knowledge and experience to supporting and enhancing the advancement of innovative wastewater technologies and the training of the next generation of water professionals. The breadth of his knowledge is evident in his several peer reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, and reports. Introduce your team
Hi, I’m Gordon Balch. I’m one of the research scientists here at the CAWT and I’ve been here for about ten years. I’m very excited about being here, we’ve seen our whole organization grow dramatically over these past few years.
Describe your research
The type of research that we do is one of a kind and something that I think is very interesting, very needed for our environment. We’re looking at new ways to treat our waste water. To find ways to better protect our environment.
Explain its significance
Part of my role is to look at the needs of different clients that we have. I help them to better define what types of things that they are looking for. Once we do that then we put our study plan into place. And after we develop that study plan and everybody is satisfied then we begin to set up the study and we begin to test the different designs that they have.
At the end we pull it all together and review our results to see what worked and what didn’t. All the time working with our clients modifying it and bringing it to a satisfactory conclusion for both the clients and I think the environment.
So this is a really exciting time for me, a wonderful place to work, and something that I’m very proud of.
